DONNA
K. VINING, FASID, RID, NCIDQ #6536
EDUCATION:
Business and Interior Design - North Texas State University, Denton, Texas
Donna began her career in the business
world where she was Administrative Assistant to the Senior Vice President of TD
Industries, and then moved on to Motherhood and the interior design field. She
served as President of the PTA in Carrollton, Texas, at McCoy Elementary.
Through her involvement in the local schools, she became a speaker with Texas
War on Drugs. Her children used to tell people that “Mom is out doing drugs”
when they called and she was at a speaking engagement to promote Texas War on
Drugs. Donna also served on the Board of the Carrollton Children’s Advocacy for
several years.
Donna moved to Houston in the early 80’s
and again became involved with the PTO and served as the first President of the
Lakewood Elementary PTO. At the same time she was chair of the fundraising
campaign for her local church, Lakewood Methodist and starting up her interior
design business once again.
Donna’s company, Vining Design Associates,
Inc. has been an active full service interior design company in Houston since
1987. She has won numerous awards both regionally and nationally and been
published in both regional and national publications. She specializes in
residential construction with an emphasis on Universal Design and Green Design.
Her philosophy is that any designer today should include universal and green
design as everyday parts of doing business.
Donna has served in numerous positions on
the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter Board of ASID including President. She has served
on the national ASID Board as well as numerous committees, trainer and strategic
planning counselor. She was awarded the society’s most prestigious award,
Fellowship, in 2000. Donna has also served on the Texas Association for Interior
Design board in many positions including a two year stint as President and
rather than let her go, they made her the Executive Director.
Donna began serving the National Council for Interior Design Qualification in
the 90’s and served as President in 2003. She is currently serving NCIDQ as
chair of Nominations and Chair of Policies and Procedures. Donna along with her
partner, Tom Schwenk, started their own interior design education business,
Seminars by Design in 2000. She travels the country speaking on the business and
health, safety, welfare aspects of interior design.
Most recently Donna has been involved in
the founding of ECHO, Esophageal Cancer Help Organization, an advocacy group to
spread the word and the cure for this type of cancer which has the second
highest rate of morbidity following pancreatic cancer.
Donna and her husband, Jim, are very proud
of their best accomplishments in life; their five boys, four wonderful daughters
(in-law) and three beautiful granddaughters with two more surprises on the way.
We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10 |
