JEAN SUDBURY
Jean Sudbury grew up in Austin, Texas. She was a champion
archer in high school and at the University of Texas. She met her husband John
at UT where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Institutional
Management. She and John married while in school at UT. When he graduated they
moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma for John to work for Continental Oil Company (Conoco)
in Research and Development. They had three children in Porica City — Byron,
James, and Linda. While busy raising a family Jean taught Bible classes and was
a craft teacher at church camp for eight years. While in Ponca she also served
as President of the Northern Oklahoma Gem and Mineral Society and served as
President of the woman’s club supporting Oklahoma Christian College, now
Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City.
After living in Oklahoma for twenty years, Jean and John
moved to California. Then they moved to Connecticut where Jean taught Decoupage
classes. After moving to Pittsburgh, Jean established and managed a craft
store--Art & Things for nearly ten years. In addition to being an important area
art and craft supply outlet and picture framing, Art & Things had a wide variety
of craft classes being taught there. Brass Rubbings were always her favorite
specialty. When John retired from Conoco, he took a job with Eastern European
Mission in Houston. Their mission was to print Bibles in Vienna and distribute
them behind the Iron Curtain. Jean traveled to Vienna several times to assist in
this work.
Jean and John live in The Woodlands where Jean owned and
operated a Hallmark store (“Paper Plus”) along with an in-store Post Office. She
simultaneously owned two other Hallmark stores north of Houston — Bluebonnet Card
Shop in The Woodlands and My Friends and Me in Spring. She is now retired.
During the time Jean was living in different parts of the country she presented
lectures on a wide variety of subjects including Gems and Minerals, Masada,
Collectibles, and Brass Rubbings.
